The Restorative Power of the Resurrection
April 5, 2026 Preacher: Dr Gary Cass Series: Holy Week
Topic: Easter Scripture: Luke 24:1–7
The resurrection of Jesus Christ stands at the center of the Christian faith. If Christ is not risen, the apostle Paul says our faith is empty and our hope is lost. But the empty tomb proves that Jesus truly conquered sin, death, and the grave.
This Easter message explores the biblical events of Holy Week—from Christ’s Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem to His crucifixion and ultimate victory on Resurrection Sunday. The sermon also highlights the connection between the Jewish Passover and Jesus as the true Lamb of God whose blood saves sinners from judgment.
A central focus of the message is the contrast between two disciples who were very close to Jesus: Peter and Judas. Both men sinned against Christ, yet their responses revealed two very different hearts. Judas responded with despair and destruction, while Peter responded with repentance and was restored by the risen Christ.
Through Peter’s restoration in John 21, we see the incredible mercy of Jesus toward repentant sinners and the transforming power of the resurrection. This message reminds us that no failure is beyond the reach of God’s grace.
The resurrection is not merely a historical event—it is the foundation of Christian hope and the source of true spiritual restoration.
