Topic: Christ The Great High Priest Scripture: Hebrews 5:5–6
Christ: Your Royal, Divine High Priest (Hebrews 5:5-6)
In Hebrews 5:5-6, we see Jesus Christ as the eternal High Priest, not appointed by men but by God Himself, fulfilling the prophecy of Psalm 2 and Psalm 110. Unlike the corrupt priesthood of Jesus’ day, which was politically controlled, Christ was divinely chosen after the order of Melchizedek—a mysterious Old Testament figure who foreshadowed Christ’s perfect and everlasting priesthood.
This passage reminds us that Christ’s supremacy as High Priest is foundational to the Gospel. The old Mosaic covenant has been made obsolete (Hebrews 8:13), and Jesus alone mediates between God and man, securing our salvation. As the Hebrew Christians were urged to persevere in faith, we too must fix our eyes on Jesus, resisting worldly distractions and false doctrines.
Key Points Covered in This Study:
✅ Christ’s Divine Appointment – Unlike human-appointed priests, Jesus was chosen by God to be our eternal mediator.
✅ The Order of Melchizedek – Understanding why Christ’s priesthood surpasses the Levitical system.
✅ The End of the Old Covenant – Hebrews declares the Mosaic Law obsolete, replaced by the perfect priesthood of Christ.
✅ Perseverance in Faith – A call to stay firm in our devotion to Jesus and not turn back.
✅ God’s Justice & Mercy at the Cross – Only through Christ can we see both God’s holiness and love fully reconciled.
